Doesn't Take Much

a note from my mother

The other day I found an envelope in the mail, addressed to me in my own handwriting. It was one of a little packet of stamped pre-addressed envelopes and note cards I had left long ago for my mother at the assisted living facility in case she wanted to write to me. She never used them, which was just as well...the rule of thumb has generally been no news is good news.

So I approached this envelope with uneasy surprise. I think the word is trepidation.

Out slipped a little magazine picture of an orange kitten. And the note basically said,

"I am fine."

Well, see for yourself. There it is above.

And I was so happy, I came pretty close to tears. That's how simple I am.
