oranges and rain

It's rained here, a good two inches' worth, and one of my greatest pleasures is to go out afterwards to look around. So I thought I'd share a few glimpses with you, starting with that post-storm sea and the band of silver light at the horizon.

Then there are the pelicans. I didn't click the camera very quickly when they were flying overhead, and I figured this picture would just look like a bunch of black specks in the sky, but actually, you can sort of tell they are pelicans. And anyway, the sky is very pretty.

Monte and I had gone down to the beach at the end of the day just to get some fresh air and a brisk little walk before dark. Lo and behold, we saw our friends Carey and Ryan strolling along a little further down the beach, which made us very happy. Carey and Ryan are newlyweds, I might add, and young, and they may have been enjoying a romantic moment, just the two of them (and Badger), but of course I gleefully bounded up to them like a big frisky horse, and that was the end of that. They were sweet, though, and welcoming, and the four of us finished our walk together. There they are, below.

Next, the most amazing thing! Look closely amidst the leaves of that shrubby vine in front in our house and you will see an owl at rest:

See? Another look:And then, there were the oranges, beaded with rain:

Finally, proof that we do have fall color around here, as evidenced by these sycamore leaves:
